Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you based?

The majority of our clients are based in London but for seminars of large groups, we do travel all over the UK. Just drop us an email!

Do you offer classes for kids?

We don’t currently offer kids classes, but we are happy to teach families together. Parents don’t need to get involved but we do ask that they’re present for the whole class duration.

Is it safe and will I get hurt?

At fight sense, we are really big on safety and carrying out techniques correctly. Intense workouts are great but making sure that everyone is safe and enjoying themselves is even better. Giving people movements and scenarios they are capable of combined with good instruction leads to minimal injuries and a happy session.

Do I need to be fit?

No, you don’t. Some of the techniques require some strength, but the whole philosophy behind Fight Sense (and Jiu-Jitsu as a whole) is that you can effectively defend yourself even as a smaller, less physically strong person.

Your fitness will also improve by working with us as a happy side-effect!

Will I be “hugging” other sweaty strangers?

No, not if you don’t want to! We NEVER ask anyone to do ANYTHING they’re not comfortable with! Lots of Jiu-Jitsu techniques involve controlling the distance of your opponent or getting out of a disadvantageous position (often with them being quite close), but if for whatever reason you have issues with anything just let one of our coaches know and we’ll cater your lesson to your specific needs.

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (and why should I learn it?)

In short, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is “submission grappling”. A bit like judo with fewer throws and groundwork. It uses chokes, trips, throws, and joint locks to control and “submit” your opponent/attacker.

It’s believed to be the most effective base martial art for self-defense and it simulates the messiness of a real physical altercation. You can find out more by asking Jack (he LOVES talking about it!!).
